My youngest sister (I have 3) is getting married and she asked me to make her wedding dress. I posted about this in August, but never followed up on it. So here is my follow up.
We started with her going to a bridal shop to try on dressed to find what style looked best on her and what design aspects she liked most. This is what we discovered:
- She doesn’t like a lot of lace, especially not beaded lace.
- She wants a slim, fluid dress like an A-line dress.
- She likes a low crossed over front at an empire waist.
- She wants a low back.
- She doesn’t want a long train but she does want a little extra length in the back.
Here is the sketch I came up with that features all the areas she liked on the dress she tried on.
Next I had to make a pattern using the sketch. Using what I learned from Patternmaking Basics: The Bodice Sloper I made a moulage for my sister. I had to make a few changes but then I had a perfect fitting moulage. From the moulage I made a sloper which I then used to make the dress pattern. Patternmaking + Design: Creative Darts & Seam Lines and Patternmaking + Design: Creative Necklines taught me how to add the features I need to the pattern.
I was then ready to make a muslin and fit it to my sister.
