One of the decision that my sister and I had to make was what fabric would be used for her wedding dress. We looked at several fabric stores and ordered many swatches from online stores before we made our choice.
The fabric we chose is an Antique Silk Charmeuse from Mood Fabrics. It is a really beautiful fabric with a really nice drape. I am a little nervous about cutting and sewing with it but I have been reading about using silk charmeuse which will hopefully help me. I will write about my experience working with it in a later post.
For the lace, my sister bought a leaf design lace from etsy. It is a cotton lace which has a lot of stretch. I might have to underline it with a tulle or organza for stabilization. It doesn’t have a scallop edge but I plan to make one by cutting around the leaf design and embroidery stitching the edges to the underlining.
To underline the silk, at least in the bodice, I am using a Silk Organza which I also purchased from Mood Fabrics. The dress will be lined with Bridal Lining from Joann’s.
I plan on adding boning and a zipper placket with cloth covered buttons.
